Multi-Chamber Furnace

With a Fioscope Air-Cooled In-Furnace Camera System installed in your multi-chamber melting furnace, you gain continuous, live feedback on melt conditions. Operators can monitor furnace activities safely from the control room or remotely via the plant camera network, eliminating the need for hazardous in-person checks.

With scrap typically charged in small but regular quantities onto a ramp, or into a shaft, it is important to monitor the status of the scrap already in the furnace to ensure stable furnace operating conditions and optimum melt rates. Often, the atmosphere inside the furnace is important to the operation, so having a camera to view inside the furnace with the door closed becomes even more important.

What Can You Monitor?

1

Scrap Pile

Track material conditions and melting progress on the ramp or in the shaft in real time.
2

Burner Flame

Ensure optimal combustion by observing flame stability and position.
3

Dross Generation

Control dross buildup for cleaner processes and higher metal yield and know exactly when it is required to skim the ‘dirty’ chamber.
4

Furnace Circulation

Verify uniform heat distribution and proper flow for efficient melting and monitor the flow between the different chambers.
5

Metal Level

Maintain precise control over metal levels to optimize operations.

Key Benefits

Enhanced Safety

Keep operators safe by allowing them to monitor furnace conditions remotely, with the door closed. This minimizes exposure to extreme heat, potential hazards, and floor traffic in the casting area.

Energy Savings

Avoid unnecessary energy losses from open furnace doors. A furnace door once open loses radiant heat quickly, requiring three times that energy to recover the temperature. Keeping doors closed shortens melt cycles, reduces CO₂ emissions, and conserves energy.

Improved Melt Rates

Monitor scrap material as it melts and identify when to skim or add more material, reducing cycle times while ensuring efficient operations—all without opening the furnace door.

Proactive Maintenance Planning

Track refractory wear over time and make data-driven adjustments to burner controls to prevent issues. This approach extends furnace life and reduces unplanned maintenance.

Troubleshooting and Incident Analysis

In the event of a problem, review recorded footage to analyse and resolve incidents. Use insights to implement preventative measures and optimize future operations.

Intelligent Operations

Beyond visual monitoring, our cameras integrate smart features like prompts for charging or skimming. Additional intelligent capabilities under development include advanced monitoring of burner flames and refractory conditions.
